Shelter Paws for Life program

Our Shelter Paws for Life Program is FREE!

Anyone adopting an eligible dog from the Los Angeles Animal Services and/or a reputable LA-based rescue can take advantage of our Shelter Paws for Life Program, which is FREE.

Adopters and rescuers of shelter dogs get to bring a fully trained, well-socialized dog into their forever homes, dogs who only months before were languishing in the statewide shelter system, overlooked and ignored.

Our Shelter Paws for Life Program is the first of its kind in the nation!

It is specifically intended to assist dogs in Los Angeles City Shelters who, for one reason or another, have been in the shelter system for four months or more and have essentially gone unnoticed (while these are typically larger "power breeds," it's not exclusively the case).

Utilizing our successful Paws for Life Prison Program within the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) facilities, SPFL is a 6 week training course within the prisons who're currently part of our Paws for Life program initiative.

While boarding and training over a 6 week time stretch, these once invisible, unloved pups will be trained by our professional dog trainers and inmates, who'll crate and potty train them, teach them to walk well on a leash, as well as their basic commands, and regularly socialize them with humans and other pups.

Program Trainers

The requisite four classes taught by formerly incarcerated inmates who've been a part of our PFL prison while in custody will instruct new dog owners in training methods, commands, and the essentials of responsible pet parenting. Because, as always, our mission is to produce successful, long-term adoptions for life.
