I have been around dogs all my life, so being incarcerated created a huge void in my life. My dad trained pit bulls for as long as I can remember, and he was my initial inspiration to work with dogs. Doing a lengthy prison sentence meant that I would be away from the animals I love; however, there was an ‘oasis’ on the horizon. When I arrived at CMF and heard they had a dog program I was certainly eager to join. Growing up with pit bulls—like myself, they are a breed that is completely misunderstood and misrepresented—I developed an affinity for them. PFL has allowed me to continue working with these amazing animals, and, equally as important, continue working on myself.
