Occupation: Dog Trainer
location: Lancaster
On my bus ride to Lancaster, I had my mind set on continuing my positive change. 10 months before I had made the decision to change my lifestyle, cut my gang ties and do good. It was the hardest thing I have ever done in my life. When I walked into the 5 block where the PFL program is run, I was amazed at all the dogs walking around the dayroom being trained. I wanted to pet one. Not only am I a dog lover from childhood, but I knew this program was special. I’ve never seen men of all races working together in prison, smiling, laughing, making high pitch noises and coming together with no boundaries. I had to be a part of this Paws for Life program. This meant breaking completely from my past. I had found that positive change I’d been wanting for months.
Learning how to train and care for these dogs is the best experience I’ve been through. Playing and bonding with dogs is the best. These dogs and the PFL program have given me a positive future to look forward to. Something positive in my life to share with my family. I am super proud to be a part of Paws for Life and help rescue dogs that will some day bring joy to a forever home.
