Occupation: Dog Trainer

location: LAC

When I first became a part of PFL and started training dogs, I was able to empathize and connect with them in an unexpected way. Many of our dogs come from high intake shelters where they have spent sometimes over a year in! They often come to us scared, aggressive, with scars of abuse and dog fights. However, giving them structure, training, and a whole lot of love, I have watched these dogs rehabilitate from scared and aggressive animals to obedient and affectionate pets. It has been a beautiful metaphor that we are not bound by our past traumas but with hard work, we can heal and change.

More recently, I was granted parole and will be released in the next few months. Paws For Life has been a blessing of camaraderie, support, and has been a huge part of my growth and rehabilitation. Words can’t express how grateful I am to be a part of such an amazing organization that has not only helped me gain skills to be successful in the free world, but more importantly, has helped me become a better person who can make a meaningful and positive difference to a world I once harmed.
