My name is John and I joined PFL because I wanted to overcome a bittersweet relationship with dogs. As a child, my brother developed a severe allergic reaction to our family’s five dogs, and, sadly, my father was forced to make the horrible decision to turn our dogs in to the local shelter. My brother’s health improved; however, the heartache I experienced when I watched my dad take our dogs never went away. I could not bear the thought of losing another ‘best friend,’ so I simply never had another dog—until I heard about Paws For Life. I wanted to be part of this life-changing program, and I also wanted to overcome my fear of loss. Reconnecting with the dogs I love so much has filled that void in my heart, and this opportunity to give back for the harm I’ve caused is the priceless cornerstone of my rehabilitation.
