Jesus - Released

My name is Jesus Salgado, I have been incarcerated since 2009, the first 9 years of my incarceration I was living a non emotional life, every feeling I had, I buried into the deepest part of my soul. I put on a mask which deceived my fellow man showing I was a strong individual that is not affected by emotions but deep down this wasn’t the true me. I thought I lost the capability to ever love. I’d been conditioning myself to deprive myself from getting close to anybody or anything.

I heard about Paws for Life through another inmate, so I asked to be enrolled. At first, I felt out of my comfort zone; when a dog is brought in, the stories are sometimes hard to listen to, when I see them I just want to pick them up, hold them and reassure them they are in good hands. These animals have a lot of love to give and I am grateful these amazing dogs can bring out the real me.
