Occupation: Dog Trainer

location: CMF

My name is Jeff Maria. I have been incarcerated for 41 years. I wanted to be a part of the dog program the minute I heard about it. I am grateful to Paws for Life K9 Rescue for entrusting me with the care and training of a dog looking for a second chance, and a loving family.
Paws for Life gave me the opportunity to demonstrate compassion and empathy for another living being on a daily basis; as well as being totally responsible for a dog’s care and wellbeing.
I’ve never raised a child, but like a child my dog depends on me to take care of all her/his needs.
When I come back from a long day at work and there is a dog that is so happy and excited to see and be with me, it melts my heart and lifts my spirits.
Prison offers few opportunities to earn trust, show responsibility, work as a team, exercise patience and selflessness, and give and receive unconditional love. Paws for Life is just that and so very much more.
