Occupation: Program Leader, Primary Handler (PTSD)
location: Mule Creek
I went to a shelter in 1989 and found a best friend, a German Shepherd/Husky mix. DJ and I attended group training classes and that began my journey into dog training. Over the next 14 years I helped family and friends train their dogs, and after DJ passed, I trained my newest best friend. I lost of all that in 2003 when I was arrested. As an LWOP (Life without possibility of parole) I thought I would never again pet a dog. That changed in 2017, when I joined Paws for Life. My whole outlook on life changed. I am now able to help the lives of our dogs and at the same time give back to the community. Through these dogs, I feel human again, like I matter and they help make me want to be a better person. The dogs have given me a sense of purpose and hope. I am also inspired by the change this program encourages in others that are a part of it.
I wish it was a better way to say it, but… THANK YOU PAWS FOR LIFE.
